Virtual conferences: Top five tips

Five things to keep you awake at night

As an integral part of your live event, virtual conferences can really disrupt things and get a whole new perspective on the issues that matter. They can also act as a unifying catalyst, bringing everyone together to explore a common theme. They can empower and invigorate your guests by challenging the status quo. But also unite and inspire them through collaboration, as they work towards common goals. Here are the top five things you’ll need to consider if you’re going to deliver a legendary virtual conference.

  1. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Location matters. So it’s important to think through your strategy. Should you go out of your way to choose a cool venue? Should you get people out of their office, and into a new environment? Or could you simply convert the office into a cool space? Is it important to find inspiring satellite locations as well as a cool, unique venue for the central, core event?

  1. DELIVER A CONSISTENT EXPERIENCE

Whether they are in your core venue or in a satellite location, your audiences there is immense value in delivering consistent experiences. But how far should you go? Is there value in branding every venue? Should you bother about cool catering? Should you have facilitators in each satellite location?

  1. BUILD YOUR COMMUNITY, PRE AND POST EVENT

Experience tells us you should position your event as being about building a community from the start. So how do you drum up excitement and encourage attendance? How do you position your event as unique?

  1. MODERATOR = PREPARED, PLANNED AND STRUCTURED

We think expert moderators are worth their weight in tweets. But should you use well briefed facilitators in the satellite locations as well? Will this give you more control of your audiences’ experience? Or deflect from the main event? And if you decide to use presenters, moderators and facilitators, will they benefit from newscaster training and coaching?

  1. GET THE TECHNICALITIES RIGHT

If you’re going to have a multi-layered audience, then your technology needs to work perfectly. Each cue, each link, each presentation and each piece of multimedia needs to be orchestrated seamlessly. So what technicalities do you need to consider?
